The Shack
MaryJo, Eva, Royal and I picked up Norberto Wolf for the bi-monthly book club at Bethany CRC. The Shack by Wm P. Young was a big hit. My sense was that the book's focus on love and relationships over rules and regulations has made it so popular. Maybe it is a needed reaction to what many perceive about the established, organized church.

couldn't pass this up...I did not like the Shack. It was fluffy, shallow and the general conversations between "the Trinity" were superficial. And, additionally, I don't appreciate being told to pass on a book to others so that it can be made into a movie. let the work stand for itself. I do believe it was such a big "hit" because reading is hard work and this book makes it easy.
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful the diversity we see in people - some see The Shack as a life changer, some see it as a wake up call about the nature of God, some see it as just a "feel good" book and one of our attendees thought the writing was so horrid that he couldn't get past page 120.
ReplyDeleteA book that elicts this variety of emotions is hitting some deep human nerve.
